Emmy Noether was born on March 23, 1882 in Erlangen, Germany . She was the oldest of 4 children, but Emmy was one of the two to survive. As a child Emmy did not concentrate on mathematics, she went to school for both French and English and at home she was taught how to clean and cook. Emmy's mother was named Ida Amelia and taught her these basic things women were taught back in that time period. Emmy's father Max was a noted mathematician at the University of Erlangen.
When Emmy was 18 she had decided to take a class for mathematics at the University but since she was a women they denied her. The University did permit a audit class were Emmy spent two years as a visitor there. Emmy then was able to take the test get her Doctoral in Mathematics and became a teacher. The University of Erlangen again refused to let her become a teacher there so Emmy would help her father when he was sick and do research for him. During her stay at the University she had gained a small group of student followers. In 1933 as Hitler moved through Germany, Emmy had to leave the University.
Many family members urged her to go to Moscow but she moved to the United States instead. In the United States she taught at a all girl college called Bryn Mawr College were she taught there until her death on April 14, 1935. Emmy had did many great things in her life many of her Students said that she is the reason why they are successful. At Bryn Mawr College she was able to develop her theories and ideas that would change the history of Math forever.
